The East Fork Irrigation District (EFID) celebrated a project underway to pipe and pressurize 56 miles
of open-ditch irrigation canals. The ten-year plan will conserve water in the Hood River watershed while saving more than $300,000 per
year for farmers
The potential for more piping projects in the Deschutes and Crooked River Basins could provide a major conservation and economic boon as rural communities face a looming drought and the unemployment crisis of the Covid-19 shutdown.
Granite Construction, and its partners the Farmers Conservation Alliance (FCA) and the Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation), celebrated a project milestone this past Wednesday, May 27, 2020, at the Derby Dam fish screen project as crews completed the fish passage’s concrete floor. The screen is the final piece in a major fish passage project to restore habitat connectivity for native fish species.
