The potential for more piping projects in the Deschutes and Crooked River Basins could provide a major conservation and economic boon as rural communities face a looming drought and the unemployment crisis of the Covid-19 shutdown.
Granite Construction, and its partners the Farmers Conservation Alliance (FCA) and the Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation), celebrated a project milestone this past Wednesday, May 27, 2020, at the Derby Dam fish screen project as crews completed the fish passage’s concrete floor. The screen is the final piece in a major fish passage project to restore habitat connectivity for native fish species.
Construction of the nation’s largest horizontal fish screen will restore watershed connectivity and promote recovery of the federally threatened Lahontan cutthroat trout.
